Audit Reporting Writing

Course Summary

An internal audit report is a comprehensive document that provides an in-depth analysis of a company's internal controls, risk management processes, and overall financial health. It covers a range of areas, including compliance with policies and regulations, operational efficiency, and the reliability of financial reporting.

The report aims to assess the effectiveness of internal processes and highlight any potential weaknesses or areas for improvement. An internal audit report must be written in detail because it serves as a valuable tool for management to gain insights into the organisation's operations, enabling them to make informed decisions and enhance strategic planning. It also helps to identify and address potential risks, fraud, and inefficiencies, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within the business.

A well-documented report can even provide stakeholders, including investors and regulatory authorities, with the assurance that the company is committed to sound governance practices, ultimately contributing to the long-term sustainability and success of the business.

During this course, you’ll learn:

  • To identify and address barriers to effective written communication through strategic solutions.
  • To recognise the specific audience and adjust your writing style to enhance communication.
  • To improve the impact of the audit report by employing effective structural techniques.
  • To clearly and concisely communicate audit findings for better understanding.
  • To craft a concise and compelling executive summary to encapsulate key points.
  • To hone skills in delivering constructive and efficient reviews of personal and others' work.

This course is designed for anyone responsible for completing an internal audit or creating a written report of the audit for wider business use. It would be most beneficial for:

  • Auditors
  • Risk Assessors
  • Report Writers
  • Administrators
  • Health & Safety Operatives
  • Security & Data Protection Leads

This course uses a variety of adult learning styles to aid full understanding and comprehension. Participants will review various real-world case studies of audits and their following reports to understand best practices.

They will then work together to find a template that’s suitable for their industry and understand some of the questions that may be asked regarding the final report. They will also review a presentation discussing the final stage of the report and conduct a role-playing exercise to discover how an audit report should be presented to relevant stakeholders to gain buy-in for projects or secure future funding.
