Course Summary

Environmental law and governance have become increasingly crucial in modern times as we have started to grasp and experience the impacts of climate change first-hand. Many existing industries play a large hand in contributing to environmental deterioration, and many environmental laws have come into place to combat this and encourage organisations to evolve their practices to something more sustainable.

It’s important for an organisation to understand environmental law on a local, regional, and global scale. These laws coexist and align to create a stronger base that many countries follow. The environment is complex, and when creating laws and regulations, there needs to be a comprehensive understanding of the causes and impacts within nature and on a societal level.

Aligning environmental needs with societal needs can be difficult, especially when many industries' core practices greatly damage the environment or cause intense pollution. These regulations need to be sustainable and, most importantly, achievable.

Organisations, regardless of industry, should evaluate these laws, deal with environmental issues, strive to meet these set standards, and even work beyond them to reduce environmental damage as much as possible.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the vitality of environmental law.
  • Assess the challenges faced when balancing environmental laws with other societal objectives.
  • Comprehend the sources of environmental law and compile them into a coherent framework.
  • Evaluate certain methods and techniques utilised in law to combat environmental issues.
  • Identify the difficulties of regulatory techniques in certain industries.
  • Examine how environmental law operates at a local, regional and international level.
  • Explain how environmental laws are integral to reducing pollution, greenhouse gases and encouraging sustainability.
  • Predict the future of environmental law and governance.

This course is designed for anyone within an organisation who wishes to further their sustainability in alignment with environmental laws. It would be most beneficial for:

  • Environmental Officers
  • Operations Managers
  • Business Owners
  • Environmental Managers
  • Environmental Directors
  • Sustainability Officers
  • Sustainability Managers

This course uses a variety of adult learning styles to aid full understanding and comprehension. Participants will review real-world case studies of environmental challenges and how laws and regulations have improved these.

They will be provided with the ideal tools and equipment necessary to conduct the learning exercises. Combined with presentations, seminars, group discussions, and video materials, these will provide participants with an extensive opportunity to develop their understanding of the taught content and gain a comprehensive understanding of environmental law and its influence.
